About David Harris
David Harris practised employment law and remains active as in workplace human rights issues in Toronto. He spent the majority of his career fighting for the rights of employees. David has been in the legal industry for more than three decades. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto with an undergraduate degree in Political Science & Economics, followed by a Bachelor of Laws (LLB). Following graduation, David worked tirelessly ensuring that employees are treated with the utmost respect and that their rights are not violated.
He has also worked and acted as defense counsel for some very prominent Canadian corporations including the following:
- Bank of Montreal
- Petro Canada
- Royal Trust Corporation
- Corinthian Colleges
- Ontario Hydro
In addition to his past work as defense counsel, David has also acted as mediator and arbitrator of employment law issues. He believes that all employees should have full rights and should be able to exercise those rights without fear of retaliation. Soon after his call to the Ontario Bar, David opened his own firm, a boutique law firm, in which he worked with both corporate clients and individuals.. For the following 15 years, he worked with corporations and employees on a number of issues including cases surrounding:
- representation of employees and corporations at trial and on appeal for a broad spectrum of employment law issues
- wrongful dismissal
- human rights
- drafting of employment contracts and personnel policies
After about 15 years, David decided his talents would be better served helping people as opposed to working with corporations. He decided to branch off in 1997 and work exclusively with individuals on a number of significant cases. He continues to lend his support and hand to individuals who are wronged in the employment sector.
David is also an author in addition to his past work as lawyer. At the age of 28, David wrote and published his first book Wrongful Dismissal which is a monthly updated textbook and is one of the most highly regarded legal text books written in Canada.
